Swampus Returns: Craft Workshop & FREE Eco-Resource Fair

September 27, 2025 10:00am–7:00pm

Join us after the Swampus Returns Craft Workshop for a free community event focused on sustainable parade practices, creative alternatives to plastic throws, and how we can all make Carnival greener without losing its magic.

This eco-resource fair brings together local artists, Krewe creatives, and environmental organizations to showcase hands-on solutions for reducing parade waste. Explore handmade, green throws, learn about local reuse and recycling options, and connect with community groups already leading the charge toward sustainability.

Throughout the event, enjoy mini-talks and live demos from local experts and passionate advocates who are reinventing what it means to give during parade season. From upcycled costuming to handmade keepsakes, whether you’re in a walking Krewe or simply curious about more sustainable celebration practices, this is your space to get inspired.

This event is part of Swampus Returns, a Halloween-season parade that dares to imagine what a celebration looks like when sustainability takes the lead. Swampus is where walking krewes, environmental groups, and creative changemakers come together to turn the tide on plastic waste and redefine parade culture.

Swampus Returns Craft Workshop (This is a ticketed event which includes materials taking place PRIOR to the festival) (ticketing and times to be announced soon!)

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own eco-friendly throw. Not a plastic trine covered in more plastic and coated with plastic.

Make your own Swampus Skull throw, part of our eco-conscious celebration of Halloween and parade culture. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just joining the movement, this is your chance to craft something spooky, special, and sustainable.

Each ticket includes:

  • One handcrafted Swampus Skull throw, cast in Plass: a custom material developed by Krewe of Krampus using recycled glass.
  • Access to biodegradable glitter and spooky embellishments for decorating.
  • Use of non-toxic, plant-based varnish made from 190-proof grain alcohol, linseed oil, and natural resins. Free of VOCs and synthetic additives.
  • All tools and guided instruction.
  • A space to craft, connect, and create something with purpose.

Why we’re different:
You don’t need plastic to make a lasting impression. This workshop is proof that thoughtful design and sustainable materials can produce parade throws that people remember and want to keep.

BYOB + snacks welcome!
