TAMALYN DALLAL
Intensive Raqs Sharqi (bellydance) Weekend, June 6-7-8, 2025
In the Sanctuary, 2301 Marais
In addition to Tamalyn Dallal’s raqs sharqi (bellydance) workshops, there will be guest teachers for an hour each day to teach about Afro Louisiana culture, dance and music.
The weekend will include technique, culture, dance philosophy, and much more. Tamalyn will teach 10am-1pm, break for lunch and resume at 2pm daily for an experiential workshop by a different local New Orleans culture bearer each day, each with something. From 3-5, Tamalyn will continue with raqs sharqi.
We will enjoy optional evenings of New Orleans cuisine, jazz, and other events that will be happening in town. Come, ready to immerse yourself in two worlds; Raqs Sharqi and the unique world that is New Orleans, as well as a Saturday evening pot luck dinner at Tamalyn’s home where we will perform for one another (and any friend or partner who may be traveling with you). This will be a supportive atmosphere for all.
Tamalyn Dallal’s 48 year raqs sharqi (bellydance) career has taken her around the world to perform and teach in over 40 countries. She founded the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange, a non profit dance school and performing company in Miami Beach, Florida, which she directed for 16 years. She then spent part of each year, for 12 years in a teaching a residency in the Aixis studio in Shanghai, China, as well as touring China and other parts of Asia.
Also a writer, Ms. Dallal has authored four books, a screenplay and filmed three dance and culture documentaries. Her knowledge and creativity run deep.
