House of Direction: A Concert in Two Parts is a presentation of contemporary works by New Orleans based composer – Neal Todten. The program runs two consecutive nights at the New Marigny Theater, with different material presented each evening. Both nights will feature a film screening of House of Direction: A Film by A. Hennen Payne and Neal Todten, “A transcendental exploration of minimalist music composition and experimental cinema.” 26min. The film recently premiered as an official selection at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN.
The first program, April 10, features several works for dancers intertwined with concert works performed by Neal Todten’s Orkestra of two organs, two saxophones, and two mallet percussion. The works are presented as a suite of pieces for the first time in this new configuration.
The second program, April 11, opens with a solo piano piece performed by Neal Todten, Minimal Study, followed by a solo electric organ performance to accompany a work for three dancers. Finally the Orkestra will present a complete performance of Neal Todten’s concert work – Music in Sweet Motion.
